10 Last Minute Halloween Costumes for Ladies With Natural Hair

on

Want to join in on Halloween festivities without compromising the fierceness of your 'fro?  Most costumes are pretty hair-neutral but if you want to make your kinks and curls the centerpiece of your ensemble try one of these 10 easy, last minute natural hair-friendly costumes!

1. A Lioness

Take advantage of your massive hair, or clip ins, with this fierce look! All you need is a full stretched out 'fro, a nude or leopard print dress, and then follow the make up tutorial above!

2. Val From Josie and the Pussycats

Rosario Dawson Val

If you're ok with not everyone getting who you're supposed to be, channel Valerie Brown from Josie and the Pussycats...the movie! All you need is sequin cat ears, a crop top and metallic pants, a fur jacket (optional) and lots of body glitter. Basically the most gaudy early 2000s outfit you can think of. Finish the look with two afro puffs!

3. Crazy Eyes From Orange is the New Black

Crazy Eyes is definitely our favorite inmate at Litchfield Penitentiary, and homegirl knows how to rock bantu knots like it's nobodies business! To transform yourself into Crazy Eyes, do your best bantu knots, and find khaki scrubs either at your local thrift store or Ebay.

4. Janelle Monae

Janelle Monae has definitely transformed since her days of rocking solely black and white with an impeccable pompadour. While she still keeps it monochrome for the most part, she now does fun things with her hair, like this chic braided mohawk. Finish the look with red lipstick and your favorite black and white outfit!

5. Susie Charmichael From Rugrats

Let's be real. Susie Carmichael was THE best Rugrat out of the bunch. She was level headed, kind, sassy and had the best style (besides Chucky in my opinion). And let's not forget that hair! Get Susie's jumbo twists by following the hilarious tutorial above, and finding a yellow dress with purple polka dots...or painting them on yourself!

6. Diana Ross

Yesss! Very few women hold a candle to the sheer glamour of Diana Ross. If you love big hair, glitter, and bold makeup this is definitely the look for you! Channel Miss. Ross with giant diva hair, a sequin gown (this can be easily thrifted) and follow the fab makeup tutorial above.

7. Lupita Nyong'o at the 2014 Oscars

Lupita's 2014 Oscars look is about as "Gone With The Wind Fabulous" as you can get! She showed up to the event looking like a Nubian Disney Princess and you can too! Are you rocking a TWA? Just add a sparkly headband and thrift or buy a long powder blue dress...then twirl, twirl, twirl!

8. Bumblebee From Teen Titans

Ok so this costume is for my fellow nerds! Remember Bumblebee from Teen Titans? Yeah, the one with the bangin' body and cute afro puffs? You can copy her style with a striped yellow cropped turtle neck, shiny black leggings, cheap bee wings, and of course a pair of in your face puffs.

9. Claire Huxtable

You're lying if you say Clair Huxtable isn't one of your favorite TV moms. You can get her style by thrifting an oversized 80's sweater, belting it. and layering on cute chunky bangles and necklaces. Make it super retro with giant round plastic studs and a shiny red manicure. And of course blow out and fluff that hair!

10. A Black Panther

Solange knows what's up! Here she is as a member of the Black Panther Party. If you don't mind making a statement, just fluff your 'fro with a fist shaped pick, wear all the black you own, and top it off with a black beret.
